Chuc mung Tet Trung Thu(Happy Mid-Autumn/Moon/Harvest/Children’s Festival)!
Here in Bangkok, all the best hotels and bakeries participate in the Moon Cake Festival by selling beautifully-wrapped boxes of moon cakes in a myriad of flavors. My Dad is in town, so we stopped off to buy some black bean, custard, and green tea moon cakes. I think the chewy texture of the rice-flour dough and the bean- and lotus- paste interior make moon cakes a bit of an acquired taste; my Dad wasn’t too impressed. More for me!
I miss autumn in Ha Noi. :(

Hey, I noticed your update.
I finally made it back to Hanoi.
Got the job, the apartment and the bike.
Which, apart from a crash today….(see blog for details) is all good.
Living the Dream.
Hope BKK is good.

Steve–That’s awesome to hear man! BKK is great, but every time I see a picture of Hanoi or talk to my Mom (who is back living in Hanoi), I miss it all over again. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE my job teaching AP Lit and World Lit here, so it’s kind of hard to leave, you know? I can’t wait to go check out the blog…sorry about the crash though:(
Hi Praya,
Nice to hear from you again from BKK.
In this season, I ate many moon cakes in Hanoi. Moon cakes sold here in Hanoi are bit different from the ones sold in China or Japan. I enjoyed them. You pictures show the moon cakes in BKK are much more like the ones in Japan.
I’m going back to Japan permanently in next week after finishing my assignment in Hanoi. I’ll keep reading your updates from Japan hereafter.
